CANADIAN CERTIFIED GOLD
WHY US
At Maple Leaf Diamonds, responsible social consciousness is simply our way of life. From the Canadian diamonds and Canadian Certified Gold we use to craft every piece
of jewellery to the energy efficiency of our offices, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. And it’s something we committed ourselves to long before “ethically sourced”
was part of everyday vocabulary.
With picturesque coastlines, soaring mountainscapes, and lush, ancient forests, Canada’s magnificent natural beauty underscores the origin story of one its most
precious natural resources: diamonds.
Regarded as some of the purest in the world, Canada’s diamonds are mined in accordance with the strictest ethical, environmental and labour law standards, making them conflict-free and
sustainably sourced. Here are some of the ways Maple Leaf Diamonds and others help ensure the origin and ethical sourcing of its Canadian diamonds.
Conflict-Free And Ethically Unearthed
A diamond’s journey from mine to finger is complex. Yet, every step of the way, Maple Leaf Diamonds’ commitment to chain of custody processes—some of them voluntary—
assures you the ethical and conflict-free status of the jewellery we craft.
The global jewellery industry works in partnership with the United Nations, governments, and non-government organizations to combat the use of diamonds to finance war or violence against
legitimate governments through the Kimberley Process. Established in 2003, this certification scheme ensures the legitimate origin of rough diamonds. Through the World Diamond Council’s System of Warranties, all participants in the Kimberley Process must affirm the rough and polished diamonds they buy or sell are purchased from legitimate sources.
While Canadian Maple Leaf Diamonds are in full compliance with the Kimberley Process, they go beyond this usual industry standard. Each Maple Leaf Diamond of 0.30 ct or more comes with
a certificate guaranteeing origin and that the stone is natural and untreated.
As a signatory of the Canadian Diamond Code of Conduct, Maple Leaf Diamonds abides by the code to ensure the authenticity of its Canadian diamond claims through a paper trail
and a chain of warranties.
